Italian Bomboloni Recipe
Transport yourself to the streets of Italy with these irresistible Italian bomboloni. These soft and fluffy doughnuts are filled with luscious pastry cream and coated in a sweet sugar dusting.
**Ingredients:**
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2¼ tsp active dry yeast
- ½ cup warm water
- 3 large eggs
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp salt
- Oil, for frying
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
- Pastry cream, for filling
**Instructions:**
1. In a bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes, or until foamy.
2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, eggs, butter, vanilla extract, and salt.
3. Add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms.
4. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
5. Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to about ½-inch thickness.
6. Using a round cutter, cut out dough rounds and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
7. Cover the rounds and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
8. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C) for frying.
9. Fry the dough rounds in batches until they are golden brown and puffed, about 2 minutes per side.
10. Drain the bomboloni on paper towels and let them cool slightly.
11. Fill a piping bag with pastry cream and insert the tip into each bomboloni, squeezing gently to fill.
12. Roll the filled bomboloni in powdered sugar until coated evenly.
13. Serve warm and enjoy!
